This is the follow up theme to "Gothic Hearts" presented by "F.A.F" (Fantasy Artist Friends) a 'Celebration of Summer' to mark Midsummer/Litha/Summer Solstice, 21 June. Enteries will be needed by the 21st and all things go well, 'Celebration of Summer' will go live on the 24th, 25th at the lastest (note to self to make sure to post titles with each image...only goof not caught w/ Gothic Hearts)

I have no idea what I'm saying about love...or for that matter, a very dark love (only I wouldn't want to be the one who lost my heart to her!) so, read whatever you want into this...something simple...

Tweaking to do on "Gothic Hearts" layout and should be going live tomorrow (or tonight if all goes well) unless like a meteroid or a piece of the sky falls on my head...

Coming soon - post date should be (fingers crossed) 22 Feb...a week after Valentines...it was originally slated for Valentine's Day, but I was side tracked with the hubby being sick, then I got his cooties and then I was sick. Lovely stuff that head/chest cold and flu combo is along with the sloshy head syndrome and dancing teeth and drumming jaw are additional icing on the cake when one gets that crud.

Well, enough with the crud...sneak peek of the webpage layout for "Gothic Hearts" by 'FAF' (Fantasy Artist Friends) which is buddies with "FAE" (Fantasy Artists Emerging FAE - awesome place to hang out, learn, grow and interact with other artists)

And being unsick, brings me to my image that is 50% done (yeah!) keeping it fairly simply and yes, hovering in her hand will be a heart....I have no clue what I'm saying with this piece...read into it whatever you want. After having a dream about mermaids and the color blue (which I read on both of their meanings in dream) anything is possible...

...but, I must push myself more artistically...this one is is nice and all..but I honestly don't believe its my best...its like a step back for me. Yes, I think ever now and then as artists in our progression of moving ourselves beyond our limits, we end up doing a piece that we 'like' and know we can do better, so this is my 'red piece' reminder (yes, I stuck heavily with just one shade...red tones) of to go forward and not back...

...maybe I should do a mermaid after this?

....shall sip my green tea and ponder on that...

...PS - anyone slightly disappointed in the Winter Olympics? Don't get me started on Bodie and Kwan...oi vey...I await for Tuesday night and a nice doseage of "House".

For whatever reason, before coming home (after a lil' micro vacation with the hubby) I mused about the stuff in my life...and my "spider senses" were a tingle...but nothing yesterday as I returned home seemed to acknowledge the "spider sensory"...today, was a whole other story. Now to ponder...I feel like I'm going into Mentat and Bene Geserrit mode...I've been reading wayyyy too much of the "Dune" series (on the book "Battle for Corrin" now) ...but to ponder I shall go...will have art updates later...

Seasons, Life, Sims, Artwork & Me

Mmmmhhh...where do I begin? My mind is still digesting "God Emperor : Dune" (I read that in a day...mentally, I was hungry for literature)

Ok, lets address this is:
Why haven't I done anything with Sims 2 (or more to point, what happened to my sim blog and forum):

A) Very hard to get excited about a game when you can't play it...kind of dampens your whole game outlook with Sims 2. I have the game, the latest expansion pack, NightLife, but as per agreement with my husband, it does NOT go on his system. And I have and will honor that agreement. And since my computer is in 'limbo' status (ie, it works, but not like it should) I make do with what I have on his system...the original Sims 2. Sooo, I see I can download to my heart's content, but can't do much with it till I get my system back.

So when will you get your computer back up and running? Well, its not going to be the moment my husband walks through the door. Uh-huh. Not going to happen like that. My computer will come from the ashes and I will have computer 101 retraining with my computer-guru god of a husband...because quite frankly, I still to this day cannot figure out how I disconnected my dvd cable from the motherboard and sadly enough, neither can my husband...

B) So when can you expect sim goodies from me? As soon as I can control the universe...
I honestly can't say "when" - I mean, first once I get my computer back, there will be updates needed to be done, cleaning and organizing of the system and from what I've read with NL, I need to organize my folders in such a way, then I'll want to play the game abit to see what its really like...
Of course, life will be happening in amongst this....lets see, I have a family, my husband will be freshly returned but we'll want and need time together as a couple and then as mother and father of our lovely pixie-ferret daughter, and then my art muse has lately been on my case...
Soooo, I'll do sim creations whenever the harmony of the universe, my life and the sim muse co-join on the proper time and place or whenever I'm struck by the mood...
I have an idea of creating a sim story (its still bubbling in my mind) where I will showcase and have a download link for any of the sim stuff I create...

C) So what happened to the sim blog and sim forum?
I wasn't happy there were alot of sim lurkers that joined the forum and after several attempts in a hope they might come out and play and be part of the sim community I was fostering...I just gave up. I'm not going to invest my energies fully into something that will not be or ever will be its a waste of time, spirit and energy...and I invested ALOT of energy into the forum...and sadly, as part of internal housekeeping and stream lining in one's life, it needed to go. Along with it the blog. I still believe in sim communities, but it takes effort on all parts. When this is shared jointly by all, sim communities can thrive and when its not, well, then things fall apart, get defunct and so on...

D) Are you in a sim-hiatus then?
Yes. I really don't have a serious 'yen' to create stuff for sims as I've explained up top, plus, life happens...I'm taking care of myself mentally, physically and spiritually, my wonderful daughter and anticipating the soon and near return of my Beloved, the art muse hits me with a frying pan for good measure and most importantly, to me during the winter seasons, I get very 'inward', its recharge and quiet time. Kind of like how the world sounds when its covered with snow...hushed.

E) Always remember this: Sims 2 is a wonderful game and I love to build houses (and then ask my husband who goes "I love it! Don't tear it down" and then I do anyway because I think "I can built it better!) , but my ultimate passions of my life are my family and my art. And don't forget the occasional 'thank-you'.

Should be back in the 'sim' of things in a few months...by then my computer will be alive and I'll have had a chance to wet my feet playing the game of Nightlife and who knows, by then, we'll know more of the release date of the next expansion pack, "Open for Buisness"!

Practice, patience and persistance

I only post when I have something to say and or do...and I've got LOTS to do today, but I wanted to do an update and show you what I'm up to...

Moonbath is on hold...after 3 attempts, I still can't get it right. For every one piece I did, I was would feel I was getting forward and then when I looked again, there would be something in the piece that threw everything off!

This is the first image (above), the background, turned out waaay too dark which takes your eye away from the overall composition of the piece and the rings around the moon were done w/ acrylic and gouache mixture and instead of looking soft and glowly, looks rather pasty.

Moonbath attempt #2, ok...used a bigger piece of paper so I could include the tail instead of it looking it cut of and positioned the moon further back. Background was too much salt wash, which takes you eyes from the piece, again, moon rings looking pasty and the rocks were not looking rocky enough. Grrrrr....

Moonbath attempt #3...background, not as much salt wash...but the little squiggly lines that I thought could pull off, well, distracting as well...the plus is the moon glow is better! Rock is looking good, but the blue outline of the mermaid is abit too much...soooo

After much fustration on this, even though I felt the need, want and desire to do a mermaid, I placed this aside to do something. Just anything!!! (aside from baking cookies)...

...and this is what I've started. I purposely have not shown the first step, the clean line pencil work, but that is OK!

This is the new "Nighttime Fairy" and I love the way she is looking so far. There is more a peaceful serenity to her that I did not have or I thought I had with the first one...more fluidity than rigidity in the pose. And, I personally think, there is more realism in the face.

I honestly cannot tell you how many washes, I mean, washes I did for the background and its perfect! I had to listen to my lil' inner artistic voice/muse to say "this is good, don't do anymore!"

And as you can see, I've started on the dress and added the undertones for her skin...I turned the piece upside down so I could let the bottom (darker half) dry and focus on the side that was dry. Well, I feel pretty good about this piece, very good. My only quirk is the hand you see, very hard to get it right. Its not perfect, but close enough. I should have this piece completed this week and I have a strange feeling I'll be doing another image with a moon somewhere in it. Maybe I'm on a 'moon' kick or something...oh well...I go with it...

Moonbath

Yep! We got snow yesterday...I had a feeling we were going to have an early winter...and my feelings are generally on the money. We had our first winter frost on Monday, which is early, normally its after Thanksgiving/later part of the first week of Dec...my landlord, when I mentioned what I felt, was like "The trees still have leaves and buds" to which I thought (but did not say) "When was the last time Mother Nature followed a script?" (people, listen to the world around you!)...anyway...I was right! We had a wintery white Thanksgiving evening...
...and as I fell asleep, I thinking of snow and Rob and where he was (Italy) and we talked briefly today and he was like "Heard y'all had snow" and I was like "yep!" and he was like "We got snow too!" and apparently it slowed the Italians down from driving crazy to being cautious, considering in Aviano, they don't get snow in that area...the mountains next doors do...so I grinned...

Anyway, last night I was so restless, plus my shoulder was killing me (Tuesday I somehow tweaked, torn, impinged muscles and nerves, cause I can feel a throbbing pain where the ball and socket meets and a numbing feeling running down the backside of my arm into my hand, which makes the ol' ganglion cyst and carple tunnel syndrom surgeries/zones go "oww!") and to put myself to sleep, since I'm sooooooo not in the holiday mood (no hubby here...dampens spirits) I poured all my energy into a picutre...

...as you can see, I've started painting and as soon as I get done with some spackling on my blog and elsewhere...I'm off to paint myself into sleep...well, I will not fall asleep with a paintbrush in hand and face on the paint palette...eewwww...

...thinking about maybe getting a web cam...and I wonder, "Why would I want other people watch me paint?"...I generally paint at night and I'm plugged into my Ipod, so there would be a good chance, aside from seeing how I paint, you'd see me lipsynching my brains out... :P

She is done! Apologize for the cruddy image, but if there is any sun, will be able to get a better image...this will not fit on my scanner and piecing 2 scanned images together drives me to insanity like really fast!

I'm soo not in the holiday spirit...part of me is thinking I should be painting feastively dressed pixies, elves, mermaids, fairies, angels, but I'm not getting that vibe from the muse...nope, she slapped me with 2 new visions and I must run with them and no sugarplums will be dancing in them!

- Update on the Dark Fairy Queen...she is going to take longer than I thought...I started adding detail to the wings and realized I must stop, because I need to do another wash on the background (try to even out the strange mess on the left side) and maybe darken in the shadows just a weeeee bit...
So, once I get the background wash done, tweak the shadow thingies, flesh out her flesh abit, do her hair, horns, jewels/jewelry THEN I can detail the feathers, but not yet. And I will hate detailing the feathers...I know this already. But, oh well...

Next week I'm taking a break, so, she'll be done at the end of the month, then I'm moving on to Halloween inspired art, Sierra's fairy idea and a dryad.

And yet no Night Life :( I spoke with my hubby and he said if they have it where he is at, he'll pick it up and send it to me. Did I mention that I LOVE my man? Mine! Mine! Mine!
